How It Works
How to book a labor-only move, which truck to rent, how to get ready and what the crew does on the day.
From first call to final walk-through
-
Tell us about your move
Call or send the quote form with your addresses, date and home size.
The more detail you share, such as stairs, elevators, large items and whether you need packing, the more accurate your estimate will be. Photos of large furniture help too.
-
Get your crew and time
We recommend a crew size, give you an hour estimate and confirm an arrival window.
You get a written summary with the hourly rate, the estimated hours, any add-ons and your arrival window. Nothing is booked until you confirm.
-
Reserve your truck
Book the truck or container that fits your home and timing.
Use the truck size guide below. Plan to pick up the truck at least an hour before the crew arrives, so there is no waiting time on the clock.
-
We do the heavy lifting
The crew arrives with blankets, wrap, dollies and tools, and works until the job is done.
The crew lead walks through the home with you first, protects floors and doorways, then wraps, carries and loads. You can be as involved as you like.
-
Walk through and pay
Check everything is where you want it, then pay for the hours worked.
Before the crew leaves, we walk through with you to confirm everything is placed and reassembled. You pay the hourly rate for the time worked, plus any add-ons you chose.
Which truck should you rent?
A general guide. Homes with lots of furniture or a full garage may need the next size up. Check the exact dimensions with your rental company.
| Home size | Truck or container | Crew we suggest |
|---|---|---|
| Studio or dorm | 10 ft truck or small container | 2 movers |
| 1 bedroom | 10 to 15 ft truck | 2 movers |
| 2 bedroom | 15 to 20 ft truck | 3 movers |
| 3 bedroom | 20 to 26 ft truck | 3 or 4 movers |
| 4+ bedroom | 26 ft truck, sometimes plus a second trip | 4 movers |
Tip: trucks with a loading ramp are faster to load than trucks with only a lift gate, which saves crew time.
Before your crew arrives
Every item on this list saves time on the clock.
- Pick up the truck or confirm container delivery before the crew arrives.
- Reserve elevators and loading zones, and tell building management your move time.
- Save parking as close to the door as possible.
- Finish packing and tape every box shut. Open boxes cannot be stacked.
- Empty dressers, desks and filing cabinets of loose or fragile items.
- Disconnect electronics and coil the cables.
- Defrost and dry the refrigerator at least a day ahead.
- Set aside anything you are moving yourself: valuables, documents, medication, pets and plants.
- Have the new home unlocked and the rooms clear.
What happens on moving day
-
Walk-through
The crew lead walks through with you, notes fragile or special items and confirms what is going.
-
Protection
Floor runners and door-jamb pads go down before anything moves.
-
Wrap and disassemble
Furniture is padded and wrapped, and pieces that need to come apart are taken down.
-
Load
Heavy items go in first, then tiers of boxes, strapped every few feet.
-
Unload and place
Everything goes to the room you choose and furniture is reassembled.
-
Final check
We walk through together before you pay, so nothing is left behind.
Moving day questions
What should I have ready?
The truck parked and open, boxes taped shut, drawers emptied of loose items and a clear path through the home. See our moving checklist for the full list.
Do I need to be there?
Someone who can make decisions should be there at the start for the walk-through and at the end for the final check.
What if the truck is late?
If the crew is on site and waiting, that time is billed. Pick up your truck early and confirm container delivery times before you book.
How do you protect my home?
We lay floor runners, pad door frames and banisters, and wrap furniture before it moves.
